Wintertime is the most wonderful time of the year, won’t you agree? Well, if only there were no dreadful skyrise energy bills lurking at the back of your mind! So read on this helpful review to fully enjoy the season once and for all.

Buying a thermostat is daunting and far from merely buying a gadget like a smartphone or laptop, since acquiring the wrong HVAC can make you suffer in the long run with extensive costs instead of bringing you the comforting warmth you and your family deserve!

Presenting you with the two most sought after thermostats, being the latest and exhibiting third generation qualities built for the modern home. One is the established and popular Nest Learning Thermostat brought about by Google incorporated with its very own connected home ecosystem, while the contender and chief rival is the Ecobee3 Wi-Fi Thermostat which sports the Apple HomeKit smart home software,

Nest Learning Thermostat vs Ecobee3 Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat

Ease of Installation

Both units would require the expertise of professional installers, especially when you have an HVAC system wired differently and they would know best how to fit it perfectly onto your heat pump. Thereafter, most installation procedures will be software-based.

Tech-savvy or not you can probably do on your own since you will receive a step by step instruction from the Ecobee3. You can easily find your way connecting to the WI-Fi and if ever you get tired of poking the screen amidst your wall, you can make modifications through your iPhone or Android handset.

The Nest software lacks a touchscreen feature, where the primary means of input is through the outer ring you will have to turn and push to choose your selection. Imagine how much time it will take to enter your password, same goes with navigating the menus and other options, but this would actually be used during installation and is almost not necessary afterwards.

Acquired by Google in Jan. 2014, Nest Labs wants to turn your home into a smart device. The home automation system includes Internet-connected smoke detectors and thermostats, which have screens and chic, round designs — a huge design boost for devices that haven’t really changed in recent decades.

Hardware Design

Ecobee3 is square-faced and takes up bigger space as a wall unit compared to the Nest and arrives with one remote sensor. The tiny wireless devices relay climate conditions throughout your house back to the thermostat. You can acquire more until you achieve the uniformity of heat you prefer, about three would make a huge difference!

Nest is round-faced and circular which most people would easily recognize, with the third generation featuring a bright display that comes across an entire room. Farsight is one of its distinctive characteristics that is able to detect people at a distance of 20 feet away, and surprise you with a big and bold temperature reading which is impressively smart for such a device.

Software Design

Ecobee3 is built with a black and white display which is large enough to easily present you with the current indoor temperature on its standby screen. Once interacted with, it then shows off a more detailed screen with a row of menu options at the bottom and climate control points towards the right hand side.

The bottom menu choices can be a bit confusing. The left holds the main menu hamburger button with a useful weather forecast right at the center, and a symbol that looks like a gear at the right which serves as the button to change settings of the thermostat to home or away.

The climate control points may take some getting used to, but typically all you have to do is drag down the slider towards your desired temperature to change the threshold at which heating or cooling functions will turn on. However, the main problem is they don’t seem precise and you may be better of with the iPhone app.

Now onto Nest, once you have managed to get through inputting your password, the ring-input software becomes a lot easier to use. All you will have to do is mostly turn the temperature up or down to your desired setting and nothing more, though Nest does not display the actual reading in-room. There’s a slight discrepancy whereas it may show 71 degrees when it’s really 78 within your home.

Their unit does exactly as intended in term of Nest, where a week can pass by without you needing to touch it. It’s meant to learn your heating preferences and is incredibly smart enough to comply with it by monitoring the instances you turn heating or cooling up and down. It has been designed to make life easier with the stellar automation it contains.

Both Nest and Ecobee3 weight various factors when calculating your ideal temperature including the weather and presence of other people at home. The Works with Nest paves the way for you to connect to almost any platform and devices in your home to fine tune your energy usage that will undoubtedly benefit you over time with big savings and big comfort! Your smartphone can even monitor your location through GPS and will kick on effortlessly on your part upon your arrival. Sure enough, it saves you money by not running whenever you aren’t home and allow for utmost relaxation once you set foot in it after a tiring day. Ecobee3 is advantageous in a way that it regulates the heat based on how you and other people in the household use the thermostat through its intelligent sensors made to detect motion. It’s compatible with the HomeKit and allows you to talk to Siri to know the exact temperature in your bedroom.

Bottom Line

There’s really no better choice of the two. but it lies on your expected use and considering all aspects such as the features that will be helpful for yourself and all other family members. Ecobee3 would be ideal for disparate temperature measurements in a home with various rooms and maybe bigger than other homes, but for places with a more regulated airflow like condominiums, the remote sensors may not be significant. Meanwhile, the Works With Nest program is best for putting their thermostat at the center of a smart home connected with range of interconnected gadgets where many people would find handy.

Both of these HVAC controllers prove to be excellent and unique in each their own way, mostly when used properly and in the appropriate environment. Most importantly, you get to be warm and cozy as you can be with one of the best and smartest thermostats around!

I am assuming this is a test quietson and the 3 lines are the available answers? In which case there should be another answer, none of the above. Because the hot wires can never be green or white.IN most cases they are only covered in black insulation unless it is a 60 amp service which is rarely put in a new building of today. They are then phase taped to indicate the phase and voltage.
